Ever since the end of WW2, the name of L.J.Sandalls has been synonymous with building repairs and Maintenance within Portsmouth.
L.J. started working as a decorator at Hadley's shopfitters and, as general building work increased rapidly after the war, he was always in demand, not just for decorating but also building repairs.
He worked tirelessly after a normal day's work, in the evenings and weekends, but as demand grew he decided to go it alone.
It
was a big step to leave regular employment and take the risk, but with
a growing reputation for his excellent workmanship and glowing recommendations
from satisfied customers, the work continued to come in, not just private
customers, but now estate agents and bigger clients.
He
married Freda in 1950 and they moved to Rugby Road where he set up his
first office and started employing a work force.
From his humble beginnings in Rugby Road pushing hand carts, we now run a fleet of 10 vans and carry out maintenance and refurbishments at several MoD establishments, undertake work for architects, estate agents, insurance companies, various diocesan properties, churches and cathedrals, chain stores and many private customers.
With work ranging from leaking taps, roof leaks, decorating, up to complete internal alterations and extensions.
We
even recently built a new clubhouse for Southsea Golf Club.
Although the Company has been in business for over 60 years it is still family run.
Mr.
Mike Sandalls is the Managing Director and son of L. J., Mrs Pauline Holt
is Financial Director and daughter, Mrs Chris Buckley is a Director, Office
Manager and niece and Mr.John Helm is Contracts Manager and son-in-law
of Chris Buckley.
You can't get much more family run!
